Potential Organizations to Collaborate with at the Local and State Levels
Host Events or Activities for Local Community Members and Children
- Host an essay contest for the youth in your state or county. Choose a preparedness related topic and select judges from the community to evaluate the writing and select a winner. Publicize the event to local schools, youth groups, 4-H clubs, etc. A success story to use as an example can be found at: Farmington Hills Youth Essay Contest
- Partner with an organization that works with older Americans or individuals with disabilities or special needs. Collaborate with faith-based organizations to help communicate the importance of disaster preparedness to the community. Work with local hospitals, rehabilitation centers, mental health centers to communicate also.
- Pets require special care during a disaster that many pet owners might not think about. Consider working with local pet stores, veterinarians, or animals shelters to inform community members of the safety precautions necessary for pet safety and security.
