Conference Overview

THE ISSUE - Understanding the roles that Extension/outreach, agencies, industry, commodities, and the community have before, during, and after an animal agrosecurity event involving an international border is vital to the protection and security of the food and agricultural infrastructure of the U.S. and Canada.

THE CONFERENCE - With support from the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) is offering the North Central Region International EDEN Animal Agrosecurity Conference.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES - The goals of this international regional conference are to improve the understanding of Extension's role in an animal agrosecurity event, to promote dialog between nations, provinces, states, agencies, communities, and citizens, and to improve formal and informal cooperation in an animal agrosecurity event involving an international border.

The objectives of this conference will be to help states and provinces to form teams to understand their role and responsibilities in the event of a major animal agrosecurity incident (i.e. a disease outbreak), to understand the resources that are available, and to become better prepared to work as a team with others during an agrosecurity incident. Team members will include Extension/outreach educators, regulatory veterinary medicine, animal health boards, department of agriculture, homeland defense, emergency managers, public health, state animal response teams/veterinary reserve corps, law enforcement, livestock associations, veterinary practitioners and commodity groups. In addition, agencies and other emergency management groups will have an improved understanding of Extension's educational and facilitation role, and the resources available through the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN).

THE ATTENDEES - Participants are expected from Canada and the U.S. who have a vested interest in animal agrosecurity and its ripple effect on a community.
